Strainer Air Eliminator

Fluidyne Strainer Air Eliminator series is engineered to ensure clean, air-free liquid for accurate and reliable flow measurement. Combining high-efficiency filtration and automatic air elimination in a single compact unit makes it the preferred choice for custody transfer, tanker offloading, bulk handling and critical process applications.

The strainer air eliminator ensures 100% clean and air-free product and enhances accuracy of Positive Displacement and Coriolis mass flowmeters.

FAQ’s

A strainer air eliminator is a dual-function pipeline instrument that filters solid contaminants while removing entrained air, gas and vapour from liquids. By combining a strainer for flow meter protection with air elimination, it protects sensitive metering equipment and improves measurement reliability. It is particularly useful upstream of positive displacement and Coriolis flowmeters where contaminants and entrained air can adversely affect measurement accuracy.
The strainer first captures suspended solids, debris and contaminants present in the flowing liquid. The air elimination chamber then allows entrained air and gas to separate from the liquid. A precision float mechanism automatically operates the vent as air accumulates. This combination creates an effective air eliminator for liquid measurement systems while providing strainer for flow meter protection within a single compact instrument.
Entrained air can introduce significant errors into liquid flow measurement because the meter may encounter a mixture of liquid and gas instead of a completely liquid stream. Positive displacement meters can consequently register overstated volume, while gas can also disturb Coriolis measurement. An air eliminator for flow meter installations removes this unwanted air before measurement, helping improve accuracy, repeatability and reliability, particularly in custody transfer applications.

Strainer air eliminators are commonly installed in liquid metering systems where both filtration and air removal are important. Typical applications include petroleum products, fuels, oils, chemicals, solvents, tanker loading and unloading, terminal metering and custody transfer systems. An air eliminator for liquid transfer is particularly valuable upstream of positive displacement or Coriolis meters, while the integrated strainer for flow meter protects the measuring equipment from contaminants.

Maintenance primarily involves periodically inspecting and cleaning the strainer element to remove accumulated solid contaminants. Cleaning frequency depends on liquid cleanliness, operating conditions and the selected filtration rating. The float assembly, vent mechanism and seals should also be periodically inspected for unrestricted operation and leakage. Maintaining both functions ensures the strainer for flow meter remains effective while the air eliminator for flow meter continues removing accumulated air reliably.
A strainer air eliminator can be engineered for different liquid properties, but suitability depends on viscosity, flow rate, operating pressure, temperature and fluid compatibility. Higher viscosity affects pressure loss across the strainer and the separation behaviour of entrained air. For alternative liquid fuels, material and seal compatibility must also be verified. Therefore, an air eliminator for liquid applications should always be selected against the specific process and fluid data.
